Freemasonry is about sharing a common desire for charitable support and following a high moral code. The are a few Lodges that are for women only & many more male only Lodges and Chapters. We focus on following the three core principles and improving oneself and others. Our society is open to men of any race, religion, political belief and status.
How to join
One of the most common misconceptions about Freemasonry – and there are many of them – is that you have to be invited to join. There is absolutely no reason why you should not ask to join – in fact that is the correct procedure.
Why join Craft Masonry
We have 200,000 members from all walks of life who meet as equals whatever their faith, ethnic group or position in society. For many this spirit of fellowship is what they value most. Making new friends, helping others, following a family tradition and participating in the ceremonial are also important.
“It gives me a sense of belonging”
We contribute over £33 million a year as one of the UK’s largest charitable givers. Raising funds largely through voluntary donations we support individual members, local communities and global emergencies.
“It’s about the right way to treat our fellow human beings.”
We welcome people to share our resources from touring the magnificent Freemasons’ Hall to discovering their family history in our archives. We hire out the Hall to film makers and for events such as London Fashion Week.

You are not able to join the Holy Royal Arch until you have been a Craft Mason for at least 4 weeks. It is often said that Royal Arch Masonry ‘completes your Masonic Journey’.
How to join
If you think that Freemasonry could be for you, contact us and we can arrange to meet you informally, probably over a cup of coffee or other drink at a mutually convenient location. You will be able to ask any questions that you may have.
To become a member of our lodge, or any other lodge, you must satisfactorily meet specific criteria before you make a formal application, this can be explained at an initial meeting. You may like to explore the United Grand Lodge of England website for more information:
First and foremost, you have to be of mature age – considered to be 18 years of age or older All applicants must apply freely and not be coerced or forced into applying. As Freemasons, our reputation is very important to us, so the reputation and moral standing of applicants is also of importance; a belief in God or a ‘higher power’ or ‘Supreme Being’ whatever form that may take for you.
Once you are sure that you wish to take the step of joining, formal applications will usually be considered by a membership committee, and every candidate will be interviewed.
This process may sound long and over complex however, we want to ensure that if you join our Masonic Lodge, you enjoy the experience and enjoy being a Freemason for many years to come.
Next step: complete the contact section and we will get in touch.
The Grand Temple in Freemasons Hall
The present building, the third Masonic Hall on the site, was constructed between 1927 and 1933 as a memorial to those who died in the First World War and was for many years known as the Masonic Peace Memorial. It is one of the finest Art Deco buildings in London. This is the Grand Temple which can seat 1,700 people.
